Cold Climate Construction -Subcontractors
Cold Climate Construction
Hi Carl,
You have a fantastic website; I'm looking forward to using it as a resource.
Quick question - I live in Canada (Southwestern Ontario). Does your book cover the aspects of building a house in a climate that is quite cold in winter?
Are there any other resources you can point me to that I should consider, given the geography?
Thanks!
Terry
Hi Terry,
I have always said, "The best time to build is when it's the worst of times to build: Winter!" People need work and are more available, and usually bid lower prices. Even concrete can be poured if it's protected while curing.
Subcontractors who know their trade know how to deal with weather and that is the key to winter building.
For 22 years, I have helped thousands of folks build their own homes in Michigan (including the Upper Peninsula).
It doesn't get much colder than MI. There were very few winter home building problems if at all.
Tip: Be sure you have a good temporary driveway.
Stay warm,
Carl
